Problem
MusicMaster does not start correctly, crashes, or shows Automation Errors during startup or operation. The software does not respond as expected, even though the database and configuration are intact.
Cause
In most cases, damaged or missing program files are the cause - not the database. A repair installation ("install over the top") replaces all affected files and resolves the problem without losing settings or data.
Important: Back up the database (.mmd file) before any installation as a precaution.
Solution
Follow these steps in this order. Check after each step whether the problem has been resolved - only continue if necessary.
Step 1 - Restart the machine
- Fully restart the computer (not just Sleep/Wake).
- Then open MusicMaster again.
- Problem resolved? Done. If not, continue with Step 2.
Step 2 - Repair installation ("install over the top")
This step is especially effective for Automation Errors.
- Completely close MusicMaster.
- In Task Manager, make sure that no
MusicMaster.exeprocess is still running. - Start the MusicMaster installation package (same or newer version).
- In the dialog, choose Repair - if no such dialog appears, simply complete the installation to the end without uninstalling first.
- Start MusicMaster and check whether it works.
Problem resolved? Done. If not, continue with Step 3.
Step 3 - Complete reinstallation
- Uninstall MusicMaster via Windows Settings → Apps.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall MusicMaster using the current installation package.
- Restore the database connection and configuration.
If the problem still persists after reinstallation, there may be a system-related issue (drivers, .NET runtime, pending Windows updates). In this case, please contact SwissMediaPartners Support directly.
Applies to the following versions: MusicMaster 7 Professional Edition, MusicMaster 6 Professional Edition
Does not apply to: MusicMaster SQL versions (separate installation procedure)
